I tried feeding Tortoise poop

Post by TwoC.Anne » Fri Jun 24, 2011 2:29 pm

I tried giving my crabs some tortoise poop, after reading that some populations of Ruggies depend on it. I don't have Ruggies, but thought perhaps my guys would enjoy it anyway. And they do! My husband just shook his head but they ate a good deal of it, and since I have a reoccurring source (we have a Sulcatta tortoise) I figured what the heck.
I know a few people have expressed an interest in feed tortoise poo, so if you would like to try it, let me know. We could work out something to send some off to you. I'm interested to see if anyone else's crabs are into it.
We also have a friend with other species of tortoise who have a different diet, I'm kinda curious to see if that goes over even better.

Ooh maybe you could bring some when we meet for the adoption? I'm sure my ruggies would love that! If you want any kind of money or anything for it just let me know.

Ha ha ha ha. Turtle poop.lol. That's a neat idea. But now you have to give your turtle real good food, rich in calcium, nutrients, vitamins, and so on. Hmmm... maybe i should get one. But I'm not even supposed to have pets though:/

But that sounds fun. Maybe if I find a place of my own where they allow pets. :innocent: some day.....

LOL Alma, I already feed my tortoise VERY well for his own sake! And Mike I can definately bring you some poop when I drop your Crabs off. My crabs really seem to enjoy it, somebody has to eat poop. If anyone wants to try it just send me your address in a PM.

Do you have any pictures when the crabs are eating? How does tortoise poo look like? I've put out an ad on a swedish reptile forum now, I also want to try this for my hermit crabs. :D Especially since I have had some troubles with my ruggies - they might live longer if fed tortoise poo. :P

Russian Tortoises eat a diet of mostly grasses so as long as the owner is feeding her tortoise well, I don't see why not. Sorry I don't have any photos on hand but I will be sending some out to the people who showed interest over here, so I will snap some photos at that point. Let me know how your crabs like it.
