Crawfish

Post by madelynfaucheaux » Fri Mar 20, 2015 3:25 pm

I was just wondering how your hermit crabs seem to like crawfish, raw or cooked? And what parts will they eat and like?

They will eat either, but I won't lie, I haven't heard of a crabber feeding crustacean meat to another crustacean before.
They will prefer the eyes and the innards, but the crabs will eat everything if given the chance, including the tough shell (although cracking it would be a good idea to help them along).

We are used to cooked food, and it will last longer cooked, but the crabs will eat the raw stuff. Just remember to remove it by the end of the day. Meat is notorious for going bad quickly.
Returning crabber. Used to own 7 crabs.
5 PP's and 2 Ruggies. <3

I haven't offered them crawfish before but mine seemed to like crab a little (cooked - didn't try raw) and they love shrimp (cooked, raw, or the dried stuff)! Let us know how they like the crawfish. :)

wow I'm so sorry for a late reply, but they loved it! I boiled a smaller one w/o seasoning, and gave them a bit of the shell, the eyes, some chopped up meat, and the brain (sounds weird, but my dad thought they would like it). I only saw my large eating the shell, and the meat was pretty popular, but they liked the brain the most for some reason! I couldn't see everything they ate, but I saw crawfish pieces dragged around the tank, so I took it as a good sign :)
