Do hermits overeat?
Is it possible to give a hermit crab too much to eat, or will it just eat what it wants?

They will eat what they want. The only thing that happens if you feed too much is that sometimes excess food will spoil or draw fruit flies.

Yep that!soilentgringa wrote:They will eat what they want. The only thing that happens if you feed too much is that sometimes excess food will spoil or draw fruit flies.

Just like to add, it is common for a new crab to eat/drink in large amounts when you get it into your tank, especially if it was from bad conditions prior. Don't worry, they won't pop; they just "gathering" the lost nutrients and replenishing them. It's also common for the freshly moulted crabs to eat/drink in large amounts as well.
So... just offer the food. They know what to do.

Awesome, thanks!
When I first got them (from an awful souvenir store
) they both ate and drank a ton, so that explains it. They mostly eat and drink at night now. I put two food dishes in hopes that they wouldn't have to fight over food.

Some crabs, usually bigger, will get territorial over the food until they've had their fill and flick them out of the dish. A bigger food dish helps with that along with multiple dishes with different types of food in each. Like supplementary, dry, wet, treats etc. But with small crabs just make sure they all fithummingbird008 wrote: ...I put two food dishes in hopes that they wouldn't have to fight over food.![]()
