Re: Questions About Feeding

Great, thank you! I'll look into it. :D At the very least, I'll get some freeze-dried vegetables and protein like Karlys suggested the next time I go to the pet store, as well as some cuttlebone. Hoping to get something from the Hermit Crab Patch soon, though!

Just a few more questions. . . . . (Sorry in advance. :P I learn by asking an insane number of questions! )

1. Can freeze-dried food, such as shrimp, vegetables, fruit, etc, be left in the food dish for a day or two, or should it only be left for 12 hours or so? (That's about how long their fresh food/freeze-dried shrimp is left now.)

2. Do you provide fresh food throughout the day, or just at night? I've only been leaving it down at night for them, but my two seem to be very active in the day as well, and I was wondering if I should offer a variety of food throughout the day.

Thank you, everyone! :D

I have always left the dried food in for a couple of days. If we go away for the weekend, nobody comes in to change out the food. If we go away for a week, our cat sitter will take the old bowl out and put in a new bowl half-way through the week. If my humidity is really high, occasionally the dried food will start to go moldy.
When I put in fresh food, I leave it for 24 hours, then take it out. That's just how it works with my schedule, and I have never had any problems.

Great, thank you. :D I left a piece of fresh banana in for a little over 12 hours once, and it attracted a number of gnats, so I've been wary of that ever since.

I live in Manitoba Canada. I have never had any kind of bugs in my crabitat (touch wood) - not sure if your location would make a difference!
