Just keep trying, and maybe you could buy some cuttle bone from the bird section. You could crush those up

I'll be getting some cuttlebone too. I'm just starting to save and rinse, then crush egg shells to keep a collection ahead. Hoping I can can fill the jar before I get them.

You can also collect shrimp/crab shells, oyster shells, etc. for calcium. My husband had himself a SEAFOOD FEAST, and i took a bunch of his trash, washed it, and baked it low in the oven. I just wish it didnt all smell so fishy!
Crabbers unite!!!

I don't see us purchasing seafoods except specifically for them as I'm vegetarian and my fiance's not a seafood person
but a good idea for when I do pick up some for them.

I don't think the shells need to be baked, I think that was just for the seafood bits. I'm not baking them.
Got 8 more drying from the last two days! Heh

Right now it's just a big one I had bought to replace the one with the missing pestle, I used it for herbs etc in making incense and things for my altar (I'm Wiccan) but hadn't used the new one for anything yet. Might try to find just a small marble pestle to replace and keep this one specific to crabby foods, since I'm sure we won't want to use it for much else with some of the things I'll be crushing up heh

If you're worried, you can nuke the shells in the microwave for about 1-2 minutes.
Usually 1 minute is enough <3
