Powdered egg
I'd like to get some powdered whole egg for the crabs to try, but I'm not sure if this product is safe...anyone have any comments on it? http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Flavors-Who ... 00VU7PFR0/ Most of the things that come up on Amazon seem to be out of stock, or are just powdered egg whites. I tried googling the sodium ingredient shown on the packet, but didn't come up with much. Worth trying or best to skip?
Re: Powdered egg
I wonder about the anti-caking it mentions. I know anti-caking agents are one reason why it's said to avoid sea salt sold for human consumption. I can't find an ingredients list either.
http://hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/ ... 25&t=92553Also, salt for human consumption usually contains anti-caking and anti-clumping agents to make to make it flow freely from shakers, and these could be potentially harmful to hermit crabs.

Re: Powdered egg
It sounded like the label meant that the dried egg powder itself has anti-caking properties, not that it contains something that's anti-caking? But I could be reading it wrong. I'll probably avoid getting it, just to be safe. I'll have to try out hardboiled egg or something to see if Boromir will eat it that way - so far I tried scrambled but neither Pippin or Boromir were interested.
Re: Powdered egg
Keep trying. I notice they often ignore a new food the first time or two it's offered. Also, foods they stuff their faces with one week, they'll totally ignore the next week.

I had some powdered egg from Hermit Crab Addiction and they seemed to like it every once in a while.

Re: Powdered egg
Only one of my crabs shows any interest in scrambled eggs but they all love raw albumin and hardboiled eggs, especially the yolk!fantasybookworm wrote: I'll have to try out hardboiled egg or something to see if Boromir will eat it that way - so far I tried scrambled but neither Pippin or Boromir were interested.

Re: Powdered egg
Thanks guys!
I'll keep trying scrambled & hardboiled eggs. Boromir definitely liked the raw albumin in the eggshells I tossed in, at least. I need to go make food for myself anyway, so maybe I'll make some hardboiled eggs to try out tonight!
Also, I had some powdered egg from Hermit Crab Addiction too, but I went and put it all in my meal mix.
I should've kept it to try out with them instead, but oh well.

Ok, potentially dumb question but what is albumin? I've googled and all I see is info about blood plasma
