I just want to make sure that it's safe that my hermit crab is eating a flat shell... He's also been eating his peanut butter treats but he keeps going back to this white small flat shaped shell that's not for changing into and picking pieces off it and eating it .. Is this normal?

Yes it is. Shells are a calcium source. He wants the calcium
Mine took chunks out of a shell for a jumbo that cost me over $50. I was NOT happy.
