With the summer approaching, I wanted to find out what you all tend to give to your hermies when you go on vacation and don't have anyone willing or capable to take care of the hermies while you are gone? We usually are not gone for more than a week. I want to plan ahead as much as I can and, unfortunately, I don't have many friends willing to help take care of our hermies. I have sw and fw bubble pools already set up so I don't think water will be an issue. Just want to make sure our little ones (3 PP's) have plenty of food that won't get moldy. Also wanted to know if anyone has tried any purchases from Crabotanicals on Etsy?
Thanks in advance!!

Re: Vacation foods?
For me, dry food is the best thing to offer. Dehydrated fruit and veggies work great, but I just give them some "healthy" cereal and muesli. Works great, they love it and it lasts the week.
Other foods that may be suitable are freeze-dried fish food (worms and shrimp) or just dried shrimp.. Oats?

Re: Vacation foods?
Food is not the worry - they won't starve in a week. Dry food would offer the most time in the tank, and putting it in a dryer area will keep the mold away for longer. Water tends to be the biggest issue when people leave on vacation, and several people over the years had deaths due to the water dishes drying out. They even had people checking on the crabs! But for whatever reason the sitter didn't refill the pools. If the water bowls dry out the crabs are in big trouble, but if the tank floods it's just as much of an issue if there are molters down.

Good point! I will see if a friend of mine wouldn't at least mind checking on their water and just keep extra jugs of labeled Fw and Msw out in case they need to be refilled. I've gone on the hermit crab patch website and ordered dried sub mix to add to the other dried foods we have. Thanks for the advice!!!
