Oak tree diseases?

Could any diseases in oak, like some kind of fungus or an insect's larvae, be dangerous to hermit crabs?

Specifically, what about these nodules on an oak leaf in my backyard?
Also, this same question towards any edible outdoor plants and animals.

If you're in the US, you can bag some leaves and take them to your local agricultural extension office. It might take a few days, so write your name and number/email on the bag. Someone will be able to identify whatever the issue is. That looks more like bug activity than fungal, but nothing says it can't be both.
