Simple Question about powdered crab food
I hope this doesn't seem like a dumb question, but I've always wondered how they eat the powder.
I've bought a lot of food from online crab places like Canadian Crab Connection, and much of it is powdered. I've seen my hermies eat chunks of food, but how do they pick up the powder? Also, is it safe/good to feed them mostly dried or powdered stuff? I have a good variety so I'm not too worried nutrition wise, but is it good for them to break up food and eat it that way?

Re: Simple Question about powdered crab food
They pick the powder up in their claws and transfer it to their little feeding appendages/mouth. The hairs on their legs help hold powder and bits of food (as well as water when drinking).
One thing to keep in mind is that they're used to pulling their food apart to eat it. It's not necessarily broken down or powdered in the wild so it is perfectly safe for them to have to break the food up with their pinchers.
I feed a lot of dried and dehydrated foods, with fresh fruits/veg scraps or eggs a couple of times a week. As long as you have healthy foods and a good variety, I don't believe that feeding dried will harm them.
