I am wondering where I can get chia seeds since a fellow crabber told me they where a staple. Also, is store bought food pellets nessasary?

I see chia seeds in the baking aisle of my local grocery stores.

Commercial food is not necessary. Just be sure to feed a large variety of crab safe foods. Check out Kilimanjaro's Guide to Hermit Crab Nutrition.

I live in the sticks and the local grocery store does not carry chia seeds. I found some at a health food store. You can also order if off of amazon if you are willing to pay for shipping.

The humans here go through a lot of chia. It's cheapest for us at Sam's (or Costco) and a local grocery chain called Food Lion, where it's found in the natural foods aisle with the organic baking supplies. Sometimes we find it at Marshall's or TJ Maxx, too, which is always kind of funny.

We buy the BetterBody Foods brand, but there are other brands. That one is just the most cost effective. We used to buy it at Trader Joe's, but their chia seeds don't gel for some reason, which is very odd. So we don't buy them because DH mixes them into a smoothie drink and needs them to gel.

They have bulk bins at Winco; that's where we got ours. They gel up just fine...and I know this not only because we made pudding with them, but from the fact that I got one in my eye during a freak chia incident and it gelled in my eye and took forever to wash out.

Okay, so I'm not a bad person, and I'm sure that was super painful..but I just snorted with laughter reading that..probably because that's something that would happen to me. XD

Oh no! Laugh all you want, it was hilarious. Terrible at the time, but really funny.
