Oak leaves

Post by Brian_T » Thu Aug 04, 2016 9:09 pm

Hello crab experts,

I keep seeing oak leaves mentioned as a food source, but few details. Any particular species? Is pin oak OK?
Should they be fresh leaves or old dried leaves?

Thank you. I'm still figuring this stuff out.

It doesn't matter if it's on the safe foods list, (posted the food section stickies), just make sure you are collecting from a pesticide free zone and you should be good. :)

We're surrounded by live oak so that's what I use. I collect both green and brown leaves but I put everything in the oven to kill bugs, so they all wind up crispy! Our guys love oak bark, I found out when I realized the stick we had put in for climbing was stripped over the first couple of weeks!

Rawrgeous pretty much covered it. They love oak leaves. Isopods do too. :)
