Is this safe? Whole Grain Peanut Butter Clusters

Post by bxbylxv » Tue Aug 16, 2016 12:24 am

I have these as toppings for my parfaits and was wondering if I could feed my hermies it while I'm waiting on some Hermie's Kitchen samples.

This is them: http://www.kindsnacks.com/store/peanut- ... 6pack.html

Ingredients (non gluten and gmo free) are: whole grain blend (oats, brown rice, buckwheat, millet, amaranth, quinoa), dried cane syrup, soy crisp (soy protein isolate, tapioca starch, calcium carbonate), peanut butter, peanut oil, tapioca syrup, peanuts, peanut flour, brown rice syrup, salt, vitamin e

Is there anything that could harm my hermies? I'd love to use it as a little protein supplement to their diet ^-^

We usually don't recommend anything with added salt content, but if it's rarely for a treat I doubt it would cause major harm- the other ingredients all seem to be okay. All the grains you listed are things my crabs eat rather well. If you have no better alternatives it would be better than the pellets for sure. Some things that can be found in many households that hermies can have/ like are popcorn - one of mines faves, with no salt or seasoning either air popped or in a tiny amount of oil, most veggies, carrots are a huge hit here, the end of a banana, any fruit in the house really. Plain oats, like quaker oatmeal with no additives. Eggs, shell included, cooked or not cooked pretty much anyway- one will last a long time, so sometimes ill just scramble one shell and all and add small bits of it- its a great source of calcium and protein. Any non-cured protein without seasoning. When I started I just trimmed the fat/ gristly off the chicken or whatever meat we ate that night, and popped it into a baggie in tiny portions and into the freezer as it thaws in the tank quickly. The good news is the variety that these guys can eat is almost endless, as long as its not onion, or listed on the non safe foods list- if its a fresh item without seasoning they can probably have it. Baby food with one ingredient like "carrots" are a great option if there are infants in the house. If your yard isn't treated with pesticides and you have trees you could collect leaf litter and bark for them, as it's a major part of their wild diet. :) Hope this helps.
