Question regarding Chia seeds

Hello! So I have seen and admired how some of you have put Chia seeds in your tanks. It is very cool! So today I went to the health food store to buy some. None of the people there knew if any of the brands they carried would grow. LOL! I ended up purchasing Nature's Earthy Choice Organic Chia Seeds. Has anyone used this? They to,d me to let them know if it grows. Three of them suggested going to Lowe's or Home Depot, but I told them I was not comfortable with that bc of pesticides, etc. Thank you for your input!

I'm not familiar with that brand as I just buy an ounce or two from the self-serve bins at Sprout's. If you're near a Whole Foods, Sprout's, Henry's-type grocery, it's the easiest (and cheapest) way to ensure that you're getting fresh seeds.

All chia seeds will sprout no matter what brand they are.

Crabinski: Whole foods is about an hour away from me.
Soilentgringa: Thank you! I just put them in. One of my crabs is already munching on them! Lol!
Do either of you know the difference between the black ones or the white ones? I bought the black ones bc all of them were black except one package that was labeled white. I'm looking forward to them growing!
I don't know how to post a picture of the bag or I would.

Hello! I'm not sure of the difference but I just planted some black ones in my tank the other day and they are already sprouting! Good luck!

That looks awesome Kaydee! You have a beautiful rank! I put a bunch in my tank yesterday, and I can't wait for them to grow! My hc's ate a lot of them, so I put more in this morning.
Thank you everyone for your input/help!

Tip: I literally have to hide the chia from my crew! I spray my sub down, sprinkle chia, then sprinkle plain EE over top, and then spray again. That should increase chia survival rate lol! As soon as they see it sprout its fair game though. Good Luck

Ty Kaydee! I took your advice and did that this morning! So I just went in the room and my hc's were spread out digging them up! Guess they love those chia seeds! Hopefully they left some seeds! Skipped right over the dish of fresh foods I prepared for them. Silly crabs!

That's too funny! Luckily, mine have been too busy destressing and possibly molting to notice my new sprouts!
