Tetra Fish Snacks Sun Dried Anchovies Fish & Turtle Treats

Post by DragonsFly » Thu Dec 01, 2016 6:20 pm

I just ordered some of these to get my order up to "free shipping" on Chewy.com . That site does not list ingredients. Does anybody know if these are safe? I checked the "store bought foods" list in this forum and they are not on it, either in the unsafe or safe list. I'm pretty sure that Tetra's sun-dried baby shrimp are nothing but that, and I've fed them before and they love them (I'm pretty sure it is the Tetra brand I have used). Just wondering if anybody knows about these anchovies at all? I figured, since they are whole fish, they might be great for them, assuming there are no preservatives. Any cautions?

After a quick google search they are just anchovies, so I'm sure they are just fine. :)

I've fed them. They were eaten by the crabbies

I know if you're looking to buy anything else by Tetra they have jumbo krill and bloodworms and my crabs like both of those.

Well, just to follow up, my crabs did NOT eat these. I gave them two clam shells in opposite corners, with two of the fish in one shell and three in the other (two separate shells because when I offer the freeze-dried baby shrimp, if I only have one shell on offer, the biggest crab just hogs them all and "prey-guards" them). The first night, the two fish that were in one of the shells were dragged out of the shell and onto the sand (they were offered on the "beach end" of the tank, being fishy food ;) ). But the others were untouched. I left them in the tank for almost a full week, though, and none of them were touched after the first night. So. . . they were a "bust," for our tank, anyway. Somebody else said their crabs ate them, so I might try again another time and just see if maybe they were too "strange" for a first presentation? But probably, I just need to give them away to somebody with a turtle or something . . . or . . . does anybody know if they would be okay to feed to our pond goldfish, once it warms up enough to feed high-protein food to them?

Have you considered grinding them up with a mortar & pestle? Sometimes that is the only way my crabbies will eat things - especially if they are freeze dried. Try that ;) You can buy a mortar & pestle for $10 at Target.
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

Mine, too, GB. Most of the time I don't even bother with the mortar and pestle, though. I just crumble the freeze dried bugs and shrimp between my fingers. But it definitely appeals to my crabs more that way, especially the shrimp and crickets. The bloodworms are already small and I try to not touch them anyway. The mealworms my guys won't eat unless I crumble them into an eggshell that still has some albumin in it. The dried mealworms soak up some of the moisture from the egg white and the crabs seem to really appreciate the transformation. :P
