I see sweet potato on the list for safe. Does that include leaves and branches? Wife has one growing and its getting a bit out of hand.

I honestly don't know, but I would err on the side of caution and say no. I have an organic garden, and I myself are growing sweet potatoes. I have never offered the leaves or stems to my crabbies. But, that is me. Usually when leaves and branches are safe, it is mentioned. :)

My reply may be a little late, but sweet potato leaves should be fine for both you and your hermit, although mine have never seemed that interested in fresh leaves. I would recommend boiling them lightly in salted water first. And if you are in need of a vegie taste treat, take the remainder of the boiled leaves, chop them up and saute them in some olive oil, garlic and curry powder for yourself. Honestly one of my favorite greens.
