Can I feed my hermit crab grasshoppers that I find outside?

Not recommended, as they have likely been exposed to pesticides and other chemicals.
Same applies to insects collected for human consumption.

I bought canned grasshoppers from PetSmart that have been raised and killed specifically for pet consumption.

If its commercially brought for reptile food, then yes. Otherwise collecting your own, I would reccomend against it - unless you want to breed them out a couple of generations

Unfortunately there are stories of people catching outdoor bugs for their reptiles, only to have their pets die soon after. Since insects travel, they can get into and be exposed to some really harmful things. It's the same reason why wildcaught isopods should be bred out several generations before being added to the 'tat. Depending on where you live and what is used around you there may be less of a risk, but it's always going to be a gamble.
