Sharing sushi sashimi with my hermits?
Sharing sushi sashimi with my hermits?
Is that even a thing? Like can I go into the grocery store and get either salmon or tuna sashimi (no sauce) rinse it with dechlorinated water, cut it up into little pieces, and give it to my hermit crabs? Is that a bad idea or am I onto something here? I've only been a hermit crab mom for like 3 weeks and I'm slacking on giving them protein, I didn't realize that meat is a major part of their diet...I''m going to a petstore tomorrow to get them some sort of like worm or shrimp, some sort of sea- protein. I feel like sea protein would be better than say chicken or beef because they come from the ocean...please correct me if I'm wrong. I've also read somewhere that you can give the hermits dog treats like bison/beef/chicken...but I don't even know where to start with that one. I've made a couple posts here and my first one highlights the fact that I'm a hermit crab idiot and impulse bought it at the petstore. I'm trying my absolute best to do right by my crabs I feel like I'm going crazy with worry that I'm going to kill them both by mistake, it's literally 10pm and I'm asking a bunch of internet strangers if I can share a sushi with my hermit crabs pls send help

Re: Sharing sushi sashimi with my hermits?
I've given my crabs sashimi and they do love it. Real sushi and maki is sometimes seasoned and would have wasabi but the grocery store stuff is often just fish on rice which is fine. I'd avoid the sauces due to tons of salt.
You can also ask the seafood counter for a single shrimp or a clam. I get weird looks but if it's not busy they have never given me trouble.
Chicken would be a stand-in for any bird, and sea birds would be a part of their diet. They do like pork and beef, even the fatty bits. Single ingredient dog and cat treats (100% freeze dried whatever) works well for hermits since it's smaller amounts.
Most aquatic and reptile pet stores have a great selection of freeze dried and frozen options, too.
