local snake skin

Post by IcedPineapple » Thu Aug 29, 2019 2:36 pm

A HUGE snake decided to shed in our garage and leave us with 3-4 feet of skin.... shudder..... I hope I never come across it (it's probably just a harmless black snake but still). Back to the main question, is it safe to give a little to my crabbies? I seem to remember seeing it advertised on etsy or something for hermit crab consumption so I assume so. Couldn't find it on either the safe or unsafe food list. Also, does it have any nutritional value? Is there any point of feeding it to the crabbies?

Snake skin is a delicious treat enjoyed by crabbies. Yes, it nutritious. It is comprised of keratin (much like our fingernails), which is a form of protein. Would I feed a wild snake skin? HMMM...no. You don't know if that snake slithered through grass sprayed with pesticides and or fertilizers. I'm super crazy OCD about my crabbies though. I always play the better safe than sorry card.
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com
