I was just looking around last night on the Internet and I found a site that had different bags of Zoo-med food for different species of reptiles. Now normally I know not to feed my hermit crabs different reptiles food, but when I was looking at some of these and looked at the ingredients,it seemed OK. Image

Keep in mind that the salmon meal in the hermit crab food is treated with an antioxidant—either ethoxyquin, BHT, or a tocopherol.

I have not reached out to Zoo Med so I do not know what their suppliers use.

Since the topic came up I took the opportunity to email Zoo Med. We’ll see how they respond.

I have also heard from other crabbers that if it contains the ingredient fish meal that most companies that make the fish mill put ethoxyquin in it.

Edit: I have been using the turtle flower topper and about to order some zoomed repticalcium

Zoo Med finally got back to me.

Looks like the canned food has ethoxyquin. I wouldn’t be surprised if that extended to their other products, as well.

I was mainly curious about the flowers. There’s a turtle one and a lizard one that are slightly different

Ope, sorry, we got off topic.

All of those flowers are safe. I haven’t seen the other blends but they should be fine, as well.
