Worm Castings

Post by CrabbyLover77 » Tue May 26, 2020 3:19 pm

Does anyone use a specific brand of worm castings that they would recommend? I found this on Amazon. It looked ok to me.

We got a big bag of worm castings from an adoption last year! I would say whatever is organic and is a fair price. Choose wisely because it will last a long time. The one we got is a 6 pound bag. It was maybe 3/4 full when we got it. Almost a year later we are down to about half! That's with offering about 1/2 teaspoon every few days in 5-6 tanks serving around 40 crabs!

It doesn't mean anything, but I find it funny how the brand you listed claims it's vegan. The worms are fed plants but if one dies they won't eat it? Technically a vegan doesn't purchase anything that is derived from animals, wool, honey, eggs, silk, leather, even worm poop. I guess as a product can be vegan, if a vegan buys it they are no longer vegan! Lol!

Thanks so much for the advice Motör! My crabs love the worm castings, so I figured having 8 crabs now it will go a little faster. If I get too much I'll sneak some to my plants and not tell the crabs lol.

That's too funny about the vegan thing! That didn't even occur to me! I guess (like you said) they're trying to infer the worms are civilized and aren't cannibals LOL.
