Hello! I have two hermit crabs, both of whom finished molting recently. I don't know if that has anything to do with this. Every night I give them a little piece of carrot as their vegetable, and recently I've noticed the larger hermit crab (I think it is him) has been removing the carrot from the food bowl and taking it to other areas in the crabitat, most often the cave they sleep in during the day. I always make sure to remove the carrot piece so that it does not go bad in the tank. Why is he doing this, and is it okay?

I remember someone else saying that their crabby took off with a piece of food. I know mine take pieces of oatmeal to their corner as well. Reminds me of hamsters lol. I dont really feel like it's a bad thing.

Totally normal. They like to drag their food all over the tank!

Very normal! I think it's just them guarding their prize. I take it as a sign that they enjoyed their food a lot.

It's super normal. My crabs like to knock everything off of their food dish and take it somewhere to eat. (Sigh.. bigger mess for me! xD) So it's normal.
