Can crabs have cornflowers?

Post by hermitsrus1966 » Sat Jan 02, 2021 12:44 am

At Petco there were these flower toppers for bearded dragons/lizards and it has a bunch of different kinds of flowers and petals. I thought it would be great for the crabs as it was just plain dried flowers. Though the question is are cornflowers safe for crabs? The mix has them in their I thought they were safe but didnt see much on the safe food list.

As far as I know they are safe. I have bought one of those reptile flower toppers before.

I use the tortoise and lizard flower food toppers all the time. My crabs love them. My tortoise is more picky, and tends to snub them lol.

Ok, that is awesome! I have never really heard of cornflower and didnt know if it was safe or anything. The Petco near me just recently started supplying them and I was so happy to see some decent crab food near me. Lol. I also feed my crabs that omnivore mix for I think bearded dragons since it has insects and vegetables. Do you think I should be rehydrating the vegetables? The peas are easy to crumble but the carrots and bananas are hard as a rock. Ya think those pinchers can break that apart?

I’m pretty sure I have the same food mix as you. There pinchers are pretty strong but i didn’t want for them to not eat it and waste so one time I added water to it to soften it. The next the mold was overflowing. I would just throw it in a food processor or use a motor and pestal if you are worried.

I usually put crab foods in my small food processor for a quick chop, including the veggies. If I want to make the foods finer/powder, I pop them in a coffee bean grinder. Some foods my crabs prefer to be finer, like the flowers, but others they like them chopped, in bigger pieces, like mealworms. Picky little things lol! You can experiment to see how your crabbies like their veggies. ImageImage
