Tank cracking

Post by Bomshelter » Sat Dec 10, 2016 9:43 am

Sigh... just when you think, you've got it down.... Yesterday when adding the sand, we noticed a hairline crack at the bottom of the tank. We are hearing loud popping and splintering this morning. Now I need to find a new tank. Previously we had a 40 gal breeder. Recommendations? This will hold 7 PP about the size of a ping pong ball (is that medium?) Or smaller.

I would consider size for growing room as well. Min width of 18 inches and a min height of 20. Basically a 75 gal or bigger. A 55 gal may do for now but you'll need the extra width for growing room.

I have 7 from small to large in a 65g and love it. Same footprint as your 40 -- 36 wide and 18 deep -- but 24 high, lots of room for deep sub and climbing structures, too. It looked enormous when we brought it home, but now that we're used to it, a 90 would not have been much bigger: same height and depth but 12" wider. If you're looking at a 75g that would be the same footprint but with a little extra height. The 65g was a huge step up from a 20g, so I wasn't ready to jump to 90 yet! But now things are settled and the tank has a permanent spot, it would have fit just fine. ;)

Old pics. The sub is 11"-12" deep.

CraigsList.

The secret to finding cheap aquariums is Craigslist.
Currently the caretaker for:
Six hermies in 37G bow front, and two more in a ten-gallon tank.

I am Craigslisting, LetItGo, OfferUp and VarageSale. I am actually looking at a 55 and possibly a 90. I have a local guy who has 2 40 gal with glass lids on a stand (one down low on up high. It is my last resort but he is local and only wants 80. I went to look at a 55 gal after the woman told me no condition issues, she used it for a lizard but they melted the rim with the heat lamp. Seriously that is NOT a condition issue?

Have you considered a career as an interior designer for crabs??

Is the tank new? If so, you could go back to the store and demand a refund...?
If not, suitable upgrade... like many have mentioned! Now the suitable time to go big... So get the largest thing you can find. ;)

Nope not new, came with the crabs :). It is still holding together while we try to negotiate someone down on a 55 gal. I would like a stand so we can put it out in our living room (and have storage underneath).
