For 2017 I did a complete redo of my crabitat. The crabs went swimming while I cleaned. For some time my crabs have been tunneling under the water bowls every night. And every morning I have found that saltwater dish empty. The water was soaking the substrate. So I took a plastic shoe box , cut it down a bit and placed it in one side of the tank. It is resting on about 3 inches of sub and there is about 1 inch of aquarium gravel inside. It is positioned from front to back of the tank. Then the water containers are in on the gravel. I am hopeful that if the crabs dig under the shoe box, that the water will end up inside with the gravel, not the substrate. Then I added their empty shells on the gravel. Maybe they will stay cleaner. So far this is working. They are using the pools, checking out the shells and nothing has been tipped over.
Now if only I could get them to stop digging by the food dish.

Re: No more flooding
Sounds like a good plan. Food dish on the second level... Just recently went back to it, and loving the easier to clean messes.

I'm not on fb. I actually don't do social media, but I love this because it's about hermit crabs
