Shells shops and moss pits?

Post by Emm33333 » Wed Jan 18, 2017 5:20 pm

I'm looking forward to upgrading to a 40g in a couple months and I wanted to purchase a few of those shower caddy things that a lot of other crabbers use as shell shops and other purposes. Can I please have a link? Thanks!

Hey, I just took a look at your profile name. You are going to/have adopted crabs from http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/ph ... le&u=24834 (Tanrogdav) right? Have you gotten them yet? I replied to her post and she hasn't responded and I need to know by Friday if I can get them. Hopefully she will respond soon

I use a glass container for a moss pit and a hanging needlepoint canvas set up for a shell shop

See, now that is a cheap & crafty solution. I would never have thought of needle point for a shell shop. I need more shell space, and I think I'll give that a go. :)

Yeah zip ties and that plastic needle point canvas stuff. I saw it on here a while ago and I didn't like it for the moss but it was my backup shell shop for a while. You can make them whatever size you want, reinforce them with silicone and plexi glass and hung with hemp, zip ties or suction cups depending on your set up. And its easily decoratable with plants and eco earth and what not

Thanks for sharing the idea, Erik! I never would have thought about needle point canvas. After we move, I'm going to figure out how I can redecorate my tank and include the canvas for a second level:)

I have tried a second level made from the canvas. I have done one hung from string tied to the screen. (so every time i took the lid off it came with it kind of like a net) the other version i did i drilled holes in a piece of plexi glass tip tied the canvas to the glass through the holes and then supported it with pvc. If i do that again i am going to use acrylic rods or wood. If you wanted to get intricate you could even make a replica of a city that way since a city is all squares and cubes. But for crabs a large rectangular hidey is more practical

Hmmmm, the second idea may work better for me since I have a glass top. Or I guess I could attach some string like you said and I could attach it to something outside of the tank since the glass top is hinged, the string could pass through there. I will need to think about it but both are great ideas! Thx!!
