Preparing cork round?
Preparing cork round?
Things are finally starting to come together for my new 55g! I'm hoping to have it moved from the middle of my living room (it's been there since I got it 2/3weeks ago[SEE-NO-EVIL MONKEY]) by the tomorrow. I just have to finish drainind and move a 20g fish tank (possible future topper) and a dresser.
A few of my deco items arrived today - a gorgeous cholla branch (the teddy bear kind - with the wider holes) off eBay; a reptivine like I have in the 20gL, and a cork round. Its supposedly a medium one but it looks large to me - its a wide V-shape and hollowed put completely so I know the crabs are going to love it!
My main question is how to prepare the cork round? I can't soak it because it floats, correct?
Thanks in advance[WHITE SMILING FACE]

Re: Preparing cork round?
I soaked mine and baked it. Just weigh it down. The other cork round i have i just baked and ive had it for eight months in my tank. My humidity is always at 99 and has never molded.

I just tossed mine in and they've held up well. (over 3 years) I actually need to add another cause they've been munched on quite a bit

It was less than $10 on Amazon and I was surprised at the size. I went ahead and ordered a large for a few dollars more since I'm planning on having the bigger crabs in theredaws409 wrote:I just tossed mine in and they've held up well. Re: Preparing cork round?
Cork doesn't mold easily as well. So a good choice if your crabitat is prone to mould.

My 20gL is definitely prone to mold, I'll have to wait and see about the new tankaussieJJDude wrote:Cork doesn't mold easily as well. So a good choice if your crabitat is prone to mould.

I also just tossed mine into the crabitat. My crabbies have munched on them as well.
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

Re: Preparing cork round?
I soaked mine in MSW and then baked it, it was really dirty though so I felt like I had to. They don't mold as easy as other wood,
