Could I get an E in these conditions?

This is where you discuss the conditions of your crabitat -- temperature, humidity, substrate, decorating, etc.

Could I get an E in these conditions?

Post by Kellie » Fri Sep 15, 2017 11:09 am

Hey all! I recently upgraded my two children, Rio and Wolf, to a 20g. They are both medium purple pinchers (although Rio LOVES to wear shells twice her size).
I always feel bad when one crab is under and the other isn't because then that means the one crab up is essentially living alone, I thought I should adopt a new crab.
The tanks is around 81-83 right now with only a blanket as insulation because I haven't had time to make a cardboard one yet (though def will when it gets colder). My recently mixed sand is a little over half way up the 20g long.
The humidity is still a bit too high because everything is so new and moist but should settle soon. Both my crabs appear happy and healthy and move around a lot at 9pm-2am.
There is tons to climb on, plants to nibble on, and 2 moss pits.

Is the habitat ok for an E? I am so in love with how cute they are, and I would love a more active crab (Rio is so scared of me and darts the second she notices me)!
I worry about the new addition possibly digging up Rio or Wolf, but maybe I'm overreacting.

Otherwise, I'll get another PP for them.

Thanks!!

Hello! I personally have 6 Es. Imo, I would recommend that you refrain from getting one due to the fact that you wouldn't be able to get the E a species buddy with your current crabitat conditions. Es need at least 10 gallons per crab, and 10-12 inches of substrate. Es get along with PPs, but each species needs a buddy.

Also, I don't think humidity can ever be "too high" my humidity hangs around 99 in all four of my crabitats :)
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

Thank you!! I'll get a PP then, maybe in my future I can get two Es! Hopefully this PP is more active like Wolf.

And cool, mines at 99% too, the crabs don't seem to care too much so far haha.

When i first started crabbing my crabs were very shy! To fix that, I put them in a high traffic area between my living room and kitchen! Im VERY hands off with my crabs. The only time i touch them is in absolutely necessary cases. I think a combination of not touching them but keeping them in a high traffic area made them much less skittish. I can open the tank and nobody runs or snaps back in their shell or anything. I think allot of that has to do with they identify me as the big claw In the sky who cleans their poop and feeds them but won't panic them by grabbing them. In fact they are on such a regular schedule that they all come creeping out at dinner time. And one even took a carrot out of my hand!
