New UTH recommendations

Post by crabby33 » Fri Nov 10, 2017 2:19 pm

Where can I get a new UTH? My ZooMed ones crapped out and they won't stick to the back of my tank anymore. I also lost electricity for 8 hrs this week due to the transformer blowing up. The temperature dipped into the 60's in the tank. I know that is too cold for crabs.

Ultratherm is a great brand, and I've also had good luck with my Aiicioo that I got off of Amazon. Insulating them for the winter is a great thing to do too, and both brands can be safely insulated.

How cold is your home kept in winter? I need an 11x11 for my 10 gallon, a 6x11 for a 20 gallon may end up being too small.

Well, I'm keeping my apartment in the 70's right now. Early Wednesday morning a transformer blew across the street and it dipped into the 60's both in my apartment and in the tank because the cling wrap I'd placed over my mesh lid had blown off when I locked my door for the day. I'd had no power for eight hours. I was concerned about that because I have a crab that's down molting. I don't want to dig him up but I'm assuming he's okay. He just went down last week. I'm going to wait it out and see if he resurfaces. Luckily my one crab above aground is fine.
