Day & Night Cycle?

Post by Emilyncarper789 » Tue Jun 12, 2018 6:46 pm

Hello,

His seems like a dumb question to ask, but how important is the day and night cycle to hermit crabs? I keep mine currently as office pets. Thanks!

The hormone they produce to signal and complete their molting is tied to receptors in their eyes. If kept in constant lighting it will eventually effect their survival rates, but it may take a bit to catch up to them.

They will be similar to how we react when the day turns to night, and back again. I tend to keep my lighting on for a twelve hour schedule, and do try my best to darken it once the sun natural starts going down.

I don't have any added light source, just the light from the window in the room. Of course if I am in that room when it's dark, they have the room lights too.
