Humdity
Humdity
I have got the new 48 gallon set up! The heating is fine, but humidity is a bit low. I still need to make the substrate sandcastle consistency, it is a bit dry. I did misting in the other tank but it caused a flood. Do you know any tricks I can use without spending any money?

Re: Humdity
Could you make a moss pit, or drop a bubbler in one of your water dishes? You could also try moving the water dishes closer to the heater. As it everprates it can increase humidity.

Re: Humdity
You can also add an inch or of moist Eco Earth to the top of your substrate. The crabs will eventually churn it in. That holds the moisture very well. you can also raise the humidity by covering the top with a bath towel. That may also raise the temperature as well.
What type of top do you use?
With a new set up it may take a day or two for everything to even out and reach a steady humidity and temperature.

Re: Humdity
Do you have plastic wrap covering the screen? That will help to hold in more humidity too. When you tend to the tank it will allow air fresh air to enter the tank.

No problem, glad I could help. You can even double up the plastic on the top too. Just be sure you aren't using a heating bulb as that can melt the plastic.

Ah.. gotcha. I personally dont find those to hold a lot of moisture. What i did find was it kept the uth from heating through it, like an insulator. They do come in handy for decorations, and levels tho. Wish you luck!
