Lighting
Lighting
hey guys i am setting up a new 4 foot (78 gallon) tank all glass with glass lid (very excited for the upgrade). I wanted to get a florescent under cabinet fixture that i can put in a UVB fluorescent tube (either T8 5.0 or 10.0 depending on how far light is from substrate). My question is how do you attach the fixture to the underside of the glass? the below was what i wanted to get.

Oof, that seems pretty tough to do with a glass lid. Is the light fixture the same length as the glass lid? If it is, then maybe you can use tiptoes or some sort of tie to tie the ends of the light fixture onto the ends of the top part of the lid. Or maybe there is some sort of clamp/clip you can buy? I'd look into that

Re: Lighting
You are wanting to put it under the glass, like inside the tank?

Re: Lighting
I would maybe look into adding corner guards, not sure how wide the fixture is but you may be able to drill or melt holes in the corner guards and tie the fixture to it with zip ties.

Re: Lighting
Yeah, UVB doesn’t penetrate glass so adding it would be pretty much a regular lamp if you put it on top of the lid. We don’t really know if UVB has any affect on hermit crabs, but if someone wants to add it then it doesn’t seem to do any harm.curlysister wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 11:07 amYou are wanting to put it under the glass, like inside the tank?

Re: Lighting
Ah, okay. I would be so nervous that a crab could get to the electrical stuff inside the tank.

Re: Lighting
Not sure if it's that visible but there is a section of fixed glass where the top glass lid sits on that I was hoping I could find a way to attach the light, a hard one i know ![Image](http://emoji.tapatalk-cdn.com/emoji28.png)

Re: Lighting
I don’t think silicone would be durable enough to hold up the fixture, is there any way you can tie it to the fixed piece of glass? Rimless glass tanks seem like a challenge in some areas.

Re: Lighting
That was my first thought, I would need to experiment to see what works best.PinchersAndShells wrote:I don’t think silicone would be durable enough to hold up the fixture, is there any way you can tie it to the fixed piece of glass? Rimless glass tanks seem like a challenge in some areas.

Re: Lighting
If it fits inside the tank (may be a struggle, unless yoy get a smaller unit) could try zip-tying the ballast onto the glass braces. I've done similar, works a treat! ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: Lighting
The double sided tap I wouldn't trust when exposed to constsnt heat and humidity. It holds, but not with condemnation- has lights fall into my aquarium using same tap.
