Where to hang thermometer...

Post by RAHermits » Mon May 04, 2020 4:45 pm

I recently got a thermometer holder for my tank, but I have no idea where to hang it where it’ll be accurate. Too close to the light and it’ll read too hot in the tank, above the water bowls and it’ll read wrong humidity levels.

Thoughts?Image

I guess I could move the pools and hang it in that area?

When i first set up my tank, I moved the thermometer/ hygrometer around to the different areas to see what the readings were in various areas of the tank.

Is it truly necessary to hang the thermometer? The idea of everything being tied to the lid kinda bothers me.

Depends on the setup. Some people attach it to the side with command hooks or let it sit in a basket or platform.

I would like to attach it to the side of the tank, but I was unsure of how accurate that was...

What kind of a thermometer/ hygrometer is it? Mine actually just sits on the surface of the sub.

The readings change a lot based on where it's located. Like curly said earlier it's good idea to move it around to see how much your tank varies. Once you find a spot that is an average temperature of all your readings that's the ideal spot for it to hang.

Thank you both! It's an Acurite 00325 thermometer. I've gotta calibrate it first, but then I'll start placing it around the tank to see what I get.
