120 gallon Too much?

Post by VenturaHermit » Fri Sep 25, 2020 4:16 pm

I’m considering upgrading from a 40 gallon to a 120 gallon tank. Is that too much to take on? I have 7 crabs medium-large with one extra large.
I have the space and found an affordable used tank.
My biggest concern is the heating.

I’d love your input.

Bigger is always better. They will grow. Actually, the bigger the tank the more stable with heat/humidity it will be. And you can always insulate if you have to. Make sure to get a good heater like Ultratherm.

I personally think bigger is better that way you can add more climbing stuff and just give them more room. If u ask me I think a bigger tank is easier.

Oh that’s so interesting! I never would have guess a larger tank would actually be easier to manage.
Well, I’m going to let this particular tank go. It’s too far away and would have to be picked up on my husbands birthday. Lol.
But I will keep my eyes open for another, closer to my area.

Thank so much for the input!

I love having the larger tank except the cost of substrate has gone up cause you have more room to fill to get up to 6 inches. Other than that getting larger than what you need if you ask me is always a good thing. I have 13 small to medium crabs in a 90 gallon and I love it.

In my opinion larger terrariums are less maintenance than smaller ones. I have my 7 PPs in a 125G terrarium at this point. My kids were tired of the fish so I gave the fish to another family member, drained the tank, and redid it for crabs. I even put a couple live plants (spider plants) in it and they love it. Once I pick out a nice background I'll post pictures.
9 PPs in a 125 G Terrarium since August 2020: Sebastian (F) - 2 Molts, Midnight (F) - 2 Molts, Red (M) - 2 Molts, Jello (F) - 3 Molts, Ninja (M) - 1 Molt, Shelly (M) - 1 Molt, Tiny (?) - 3 Molts, & Dot (?) - 1 Molt

Formerly had ~40 from 2004 to 2010.

How much was the 120 you saw? I've been wanting to upgrade but don't know what exactly is reasonable for a used tank.
