Crabitat

Post by TunaCreb » Sun Jan 10, 2021 9:52 am

I’ve been taking everyone’s ideas and helpful advice and I think I finally finished my crabitat layout! Yes I know it’s missing the substrate and sand, I have ecoearth coming in from Amazon and I’m gonna buy a bag of playsand from Home Depot. Here’s the tank! I have a glass lid coming in from Amazon as well! Of course once I get my sand in everything will look a bit more different but other then that this is the final result and I’m pretty happy with how it all turned out! I still have a bit more work to do like tying down the ladders but otherwise here it is! All advice is welcomed! Does everything seem and look safe? Thanks! Image

that looks pretty good!
also are those sponges in the water dishes? if so i would just be careful because they collect lots of bacteria when they are wet and need to be replaced often.
also do you have extra shells or at least planning on getting them?

Yes yes, I do plan on getting them actual hermit crab shells. I was gonna order some off Amazon but I’d figure I’d wait until I get the crabs to get some so I can correctly order the right sizes. And the sponge will not be staying in the food/water bowl I just put it in there by mistake ImageImage. The sponge that is located in the big pool area probably won’t stay there either, it’s just there for now, I’ll probably end up putting the rock in there instead so they can climb out and now harbor bacteria

Haha that's so cool! I have Squidward's house too! I have a big, 11 year old Striped Raphael Catfish that has claimed that as his permanent hideout for the past few years. He thinks he's hiding all day (he's nocturnal), but he's so big I can always see his tail sticking out lol. I also have the Krusty Krab restaurant. Image

omg how cool
I want to grab another squidward house for my fish tank it's only a ten gallon with a betta and four mystery snails
the fish tank is kind of a side thing because I'm mainly focused on my crabs because they are definitely a lot of money lol

I was going to name all of them Gary or I was thinking Jerome for all of them because it is too hard to tell them apart. But I didn't end up naming them. I have 4 snails like I said before. 2 ivory and 2 black. What do you feed yours? I've been giving mine sinking pellets and oh boy do they love cucumber!
I did name my fish grey, though. Because I am a HUGE greys anatomy fan.

It's def hard to tell them apart. I've got 4 blue mystery, 1 yellow mystery, and 2 brown nerites. I just lost my biggest yellow mystery snail, which bummed me out. He was so chunky and cute.
I have bottom feeder fish too, so I feed them and the snails shrimp pellets, bottom feeder tablets, and algae disks (they love algae!). They also love peas. I'll have to try some cucumber!
Love the name Grey! I named 3/4 of my goldfish names from the Netflix show Lucifer haha. Image

Thats cute! also if you try the cucumber just make sure to boil them for a minute (im sure you already know though lol)
Also do you have live plants in any of your tanks?
I do in mine and i use a seachem product idk the name off the top of my head but it adds co2 to the water. It comes in a green bottle and it says to use 1-2 times weekly and i only ever used it twice and it stated turning my filter output thing brown like the product. And I have a fake plant in my tank near the filter and its turning that all brown too
Its like the stuff is growing and i keep having to clean that output part of my filter off :/

Thanks! I thought I might have to give the cucumber a little cook, but wasn't sure. I pop some frozen peas in water in the microwave for about 3 mins to soften them up. Then I pop the peas out of their skin and give the fish/snails the mushy parts lol.
I don't have any live plants since I have goldfish. They would just eat them anyway lol. I do have a couple of live moss balls, but the fish have about picked them down to nothing. I just have multicolored fake plants in my tank.Image
I've never used that Seachem product before, that's so strange it turns everything brown. Image

Maybe you can get a shell variety pack of different sizes so the new crabbies will see them immediately upon going into their sweet new tank! I say this because my OC (original crab) changed shells within minutes of being in her new tank...and my sister’s crab did the same thing! Lol. They were in painted shells though and we were anxious for them to switch.

When I buy them I’m gonna grab some shells at the store as well! I didn’t wanna order them off Amazon yet because I’m not sure the size of each crabs will be! I def will be getting some at the store and a variety pack off Amazon after I know how big they are!
