Moldy Moss

Post by joewats00 » Mon Mar 22, 2021 9:25 pm

Hi all. We just got a new 65 Gal tank and we've now got more room than we've ever had so I'm looking to try some cool stuff.
In the past, I've tried moss pits several times. But every time, they get quite moldy after a week or so, and I've never figured out why or how to prevent it. Any advice? Chances are I'm having a long-term blonde moment, so just looking to check with others.
Thanks! :D

I had the same problem with mine. It turned out my issue was that since my container is buried in the sub, there’s no ventilation. That plus wet moss is the perfect home for mold growth. If I’m being totally honest in my situation I never really “fixed” it, I just removed the moldy moss and put in dry sphagnum moss. Unfortunately this way it doesnt really boost humidity, but i know my crabs still spend almost all of their time in there! It’s my crab hotpocket’s favorite spot!
