Wattage for a UTH question
Good Morning!
I was checking Amazon for a UTH because the only petstore actually in my city is Petland and their prices are super high!
Amazon has a plethora of mats.. however they range in wattage. I didn't know if it made a difference or if their was a "best" one.
Thanks!

Ultratherm. Bean Farm and reptile basics. You buy by what size fits your tank back and/or sides. They can be insulated over. I don't know if Amazon carries them or not, never checked.Jlmills525 wrote:Good Morning!

I think the 23"x11 ultratherms I have are 40watts. They are more than adequate for something like. 29 or 37g tank. I use them with temperature controllers so they cycle on/off as needed.

A large pad that spreads out heat will work better than something small at a higher wattage. There sadly is no great formula for figuring out what size watts works the best.

The flat side of the plug against the glass, only so that it fits tighter for better heat transfer. The pads are dual sided.

Re: Wattage for a UTH question
I was wrong above stating my 23"x11" ultratherms were 40 watts. They are 30w.
I like using ultratherms because they are so thin you can push the top edge under the top rim on the back of the aquarium. Then just run tape down the sides to keep the heater flat and in full contact with the glass. I then fold a large beach towel and keep it on top of the aquarium and draped down the back over the heater. It keeps it insulated pretty well.
