Heating issue

Post by Petal » Mon Jun 03, 2024 9:34 am

I am getting my first hermit crab and I have its tank all set up the humidity is around 80% but the heat is only about 70-75. Will this be too cold? How do I bring the heat up? (I have a heating pad but I am scared the tank will get too warm if I put it on)

a good temp would be 73+ i think, as long as its not too hot( idk the max) humidity should probably be brought up a touch, as 80% is the bare minimum- misting the tank will help. for the heating pas, putting it at one wall corner of the outer wall of the tank will give your hermit crab the choice off cooler temps and warmer.
Also, I thought you meant that you were only getting one, and it you are, be aware that hermit crabs are social creatures and can get stressed if lonely. sorry if i misenterpreted

im glad you are doing research before getting your hermies though!

Dont worry I am only adopting the one from a user who cant take care of theirs anymore, I am planning on getting one or two more for this tank.
I am just going to put the heating pad on one end of the tank and will unplug it if the tank gets too warm.

alright! that sound great.

also, the hermit crab caresheet has lots of info on the temp and humidity, i would also liketo add that heading matts can dry out the sand, but a quick mist will fix that

I put the heating pad on one end of the tank (above the substate) and the tank now is at a 75 degree heat! Humidity is still 80 but only one bowl has water so it will go up once I put more water in.

Sounds perfect! I have my crabs in a room where the temp varies greatly between seasons, so I actually have 4 heat mats - one on each side and two on the back. That way I can plug/ unplug as needed to keep the temp in a good range.
