I am working on getting a 40B from someone with a hood and stand and I was wondering about how many hermies I can keep in there. Right now I have 7 in my 20L and one dug under in a 10g. 2 are about golf ball size or a little bigger. The rest are smaller. I have someone who no longer wants the 4 hermies that they have and I would love to take them. I am not sure how big they are yet. I know that 11 (12 when the other one comes up) in a 20L is a few too many but they should be ok in a 40B, right? Thanks

I would place the 7 you have now in the 40 breeder and place the 4 you are getting in the 20 L after a deep clean if it needs it for a time to make sure the guys are healthy before introducing them to your main tank.
If it looks like 7 is enough for the 40 you can always keep two tanks active with the original 7 in the 40 and the new 4 in the 20.
If the new 4 are small enough they can fit in the 40 decent enough but if they are on the large size it might be a bit to big with all 11 in there.

Thank so much. Hopefully I will find out tomorrow if I am getting the tank and the 4 hermies. I will have to buy completely new stuff for the 40B but my 20L should be fine as I just set it up about a week ago. Will just surface clean everything and wash all of the stuff in it. My 20L has a 50lb bag of sand all by itself, how much do you think I will need for the 40B? Thanks again for the help.

I have a 40 breeder myself and last time I replaced the substrate I think I used about 5 or 6 bricks of EcoEarth and most of a 40 pound bag of sand
I split the tank into two with the two different substrates so depending on how deep you make it and if you are doing sand only you can easily look at doubling what you used in the 20 long or close to it.
