LHC's on Oahu in Hawaii?
Greetings everyone, first post in a while. I'm on vacation in Hawaii and was trying to figure out if there are any native LHC's here I can observe in the wild. I'm guessing not but did not find any information after 20 minutes on google. Thanks!
The closest wild LHC's that can be found around Hawaii are on the Palmyra Atoll about 1000 miles south (well, at least it's declared as US-Hawaii territory...). The US Navy used to use it for target practice during WWII (and some postwar atomic testing, methinks) and now it's a virtually uninhabited (by humans) area, with the occasional exception of the Hawaii University students allowed to study the flora and fauna, which include C. brevimanus, C. perlatus, and Birgus latro, on field trips.
A good incentive to enroll at the marine-bio program at Hawaii U., I suppose...
