I "Help it".

Try taking it apart, then watering it.

the rich state of equilibrium that existed ten thousand years ago.
If insects were to vanish, the environment would collapse into Chaos

I found the first time I used an EE brick I just put the whole thing in the water expecting it to be ready in no time. Wrong! It took a good couple of hours before it was ready to use. The next time I used it I broke it up before I put it in the water and then continued as it soaked to break up the clumps. It still took longer than I expected, but the end result is worth the wait! The bricks are so dense and compact that it takes time for the water to penetrate and soak in.

Also, I found that warm water makes it go faster.
