is it not enough ventilation?
im using a rubbermaid container for the hermit crab tank and their is a plastic lid with drilled in holes for breathing. the problem is im worried their not getting enough oxen in their, but if i put some more holes in i don't want to lose the humidity. its 85 degrees with the lid on, i know its supposed to be 78 at most but today is a unusually hot day here. im not sure the humidity (i just got the crabs and haven't been able to find a humidity gauge yet) but when you put your hand in you can definitely feel the moisture. so how much ventilation should i provide? is a few hole ok for the tank or should i put in more?

ventilation
If its been a week and there's no mold you probably have plenty of ventilation. I found thermometer & humidity gage combo at Home Depot for $3.00 They also had a digital one for $10.00 Most hardware stores will carry these.

I know a lot of crabbers use glass or plastic lids for their tats that allow for little ventilation so my guess would be your set up with a few holes is just fine.
Current critters: Cat, Corn Snake, Plated Lizard, two Bettas, 12 PPs, 10 Es, 6 Ruggies, 2 blueberries, 3 strawberries, 2 foster guinea pigs

I've found that the only problem with little ventilation is that the smells seem to build up. It may smell stale, but not stagnant. I'm in Canada, and the climate isn't great up here for crabs, so it takes extra work to keep humidity and temp, which would be made twice as difficult with more ventialtion. As long as you've got a little bit, and no mold is building up on you, no need to worry. If it really starts to smell awful in there, you may have water buildup at the bottom of the substrate, which could be caused by too much humidity from little ventilation.
