I know this is old, but I'm about to do this for a 65G with a 36x19" footprint. How many PVC pieces did you use on the bottom? I'm going to get couplings and just need to know how many. :D
I have a 65G tank and am working on a 5 E colony

Well depends on what diameter of PVC piping you get... If you get around 2 - 4 inches, I imagine that 10 - 14 "stands" would work.

Sorry, trigger happy. Was meant to say 1- 2 inch... I doubt you would fit 10-14 4inch pipes in a 65g tank!

No worries! Figured something like that. I'd watched some videos and had mathed out something similar to what you're saying. I was going to use 24 3/4" couplings? That's one every 4 inches. And I'm using couplings because I don't really have a way to cut PVC.
