So I got the air pump today with a splitter and tubing but somehow the air stones didn’t make it from my cart to home

(I blame shopping with 3 small children) i decided to hook up the air pump to some tubing and put it in their water dish anyway- it’s definitely bubbling now! my question is- what does the air stone do exactly? without the air stone will it still help with humidity?

HA, HA! Yes, three small children could have something to do with the air stones not making it home! Or, it could have been small enough to drop through the cart.
Air stones basically help aerate the water. You do need them.

Got some lunch meat containers (thanks to a tip from ciaraalston and used aquarium sealant to make a rock ramp for the crabs to crawl out. I’m liking them!!

I tend to find that without airstones, the humidity doesnt tend to increase as much as with airstones. Airstones tend to break up the stream of bubbles, making the air smaller and tend to have a larger surface area for water agitation... and as for me, tends to be quieter... which is nice.
But you can certainly do without, and I've seen DIYs of using chopstips/wooden skewers end broken off as a makeshift airstone.

Amazon! it’s actually a pretty big triangular shape and at first I thought there was no way it was going to work in my small 10 gallon, but my husband was able to twist it up so it created more of a hammock “moss cave”

It’s hard to see but there is a gap/opening in the back with two long skinny pieces of cholla wood acting as ramps. They climb up the wood and into the hammock no problem!
