I am not sure if you have already said this or not. But how many gallons is your tank?

I have no idea what these ones are. They came with the "kit" (petco didn't have any plain 55 gallons). Compared to a truly white light, they look almost purple in color, though. They say "all-glass aquarium lamp 15W". That's all I can really tell you.

It's probably an 8000K light. The color temperature of florescent lights are measures in Kelvins (K). All-glass (now Aqueon) has a pretty standard use of 8000K as they look great for both freshwater and salt-water aquariums. It's an odd color temp to find and not many stores carry the Aqueon bulbs, so I had to special order the replacement for my little 7 gallon as I really liked that bluish color. :)

Daylight is around 5500K, and basic home, aquarium, and reptile florescent lights fall somewhere close to this. Anything beneath 5000K is more yellow and anything above 6000K is more blue. :) Marine tanks use 10,000K to 20,000K which is why salt-water fish always seem to be glowing.

Alright thanks. I am going to be upgrading my tank soon. To either a 45 or 50 gallon, so I was kind of getting the lights figured out. I have been looking at the ZooMed Slider Hoods, but they are a little pricey. But from what I have seen people say about them is that they are worth every penny. So I guess we will see.

(Please ignore my socks  )

And a very old pic of the 30g with my straw, two blues, and a couple PPs :D (the newbies)

Much has changed since then, the big changes being I added my hemp net, shell shop, hanging/leaning pieces of cholla wood, and two very large very deep pools.

I like the water dish idea, but may i suggest digging them into the substrate with a rim up so the crabs dont tumble in, and then the newbies don't hesitate to get a drink, where sometimes they dont like climbing into the dishes

Dont worry h, the crabs in there are large-jumbo, so that's not an issue. And if you look really closely, you can see I have large barnacles and rocks for them to climb into it :D
*And those dishes are really deep, they're about 3/4 dug into the substrate already, they almost touch the bottom

Thank you :) My big guys don't seem to mind it at all, if they're lower then they dump alot more substrate in, so I just keep mine pulled up a bit :)
