On the subject of White Moss
I recently bought wood from Pet Smart, and it grew some white moss. When I originally started owning crabs, and left food in for too long, it would grow white moss, and I always removed it. I threw away the wood, and thus got rid of the moss. That made me start thinking, is this white moss actually harmful? Can someone enlighten me? Hermit Crabs are scavengers by nature, and moss grows naturally, so I'm assuming its good, but I'll continue removing it if I see it (FYI, I do have a moss bed made from Frog Moss).

Um... was it fungus? A lot of fungus is white. Fungus won't harm crabs, but sometimes humans react badly to it, depending on what kind it is.

If it was indeed mold, and if it's the white fuzzy stuff I'm thinking of it is, it's harmless. If not, I'm not really sure what it could be? So identifying it would be our first step.

The moss is mold, and it's good to know it's safe. I can confirm it is white and fuzzy.

Ah, yeah. It's just mold, it can be annoying and harmful to us, but it doesn't bug the crabs. Some soak their wood in saltwater to help prevent mold, or lightly rinse it with vinegar when it's out of the tank.. But otherwise, no big deal.
