UTH question

Post by NCgirl19 » Sat Apr 22, 2017 3:19 pm

I installed corner guards to the 55g and the 20g topper earlier today and am about to place the UTH. The backside (where the UTH will be) and the left side will be against a wall. My concern is will the UTH put off enough heat to be a fire hazard? I'm heading to Lowes in a few min to pick up a roll of reflectix insulation. I'm sure I'm just overly paranoid  but I wanted to ask.

The UTH on my 20gL is installed on the front because it sits on a dresser & was too heavy to move to access the back and I can sometimes feel the warmth from it when leaning over to change the food and water.

No, it does not. My 75 gallon crabitat is up against the wall.

Is a 6inx47in an okay size for a 55g tank? I'm hoping to have 12/13in of sub so the 6in fills the remaining space between the sub and top

I have an 11x47 on my 55 gallon, but I live near Canada and the winters get really cold. It's overkill in the summer and I had to put the UTH on a thermostat to keep it from overheating in the warmer months. The six inch should be fine for most 55 gallon tanks. You will love what a great job it does. And mine is against a wall AND heavily insulated, so yours will be fine. :D
