I just did a full substrate replacement. My crabs are currently in 2 quart sized tupperware containers with damp moss, stored in a bathroom with a space heater to keep it warm enough in there.
How long before I put them back in the habitat? Everything seems good, humidity and temp are back up to normal. Do I need to wait for the conditions to stabilize?
Full substrate replacement.

Just a reminder- deep cleans are not necessary, they do more harm than good. I would say it is safe to put them back now.

Hi! Why did you need to replace the substrate?Brian_T wrote:I just did a full substrate replacement. My crabs are currently in 2 quart sized tupperware containers with damp moss, stored in a bathroom with a space heater to keep it warm enough in there.

If your crabitat is set up again they can go in at any time.

Re: Full substrate replacement.
I know a full sub replacement isn't ideal, but I needed to move the tank to a new location. It was on a dresser in my daughter's room and we redid her room a few months ago with a loft, so the old dresser with the crab tank was pushed into our room and has been sitting in the middle our very small bedroom and my wife was getting tired of walking sideways to get around it. I finally had all three crabs up from molting at the same time and decided it was time.
I had planned on using the old substrate, but my wife went and threw garbage in the garbage bag I had put the substrate in while I was outside washing the tank. The nerve.
Anyway, 2 blocks of ee and about 75 lbs of sand later, the crabs seem to be adjusting well. They dug under right away and they were all up all last night having quite the party. I actually ended up with an inch or two more sub then before, so there is a lot of room for them to grow. I won't need to add anything until they are large size and I need to start looking for a larger tank.
On the plus side, knowing what I needed and what I was doing made the process go a lot smoother and easier then I remember the first time around. I have everyone here to thank for that.

Oh no! Lol stuff happens. Moving crab tanks is a chore but it seems that the more I have to do it, the faster it goes.
