HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I hope that this is posted in the correct forum.
I would like to know if the smell of peppermint will harm crabs.
I have an lease inspection and I clean my apartment with Dr. Bonner's peppermint soap( just for inspection). I use 2 oz of soap to 4 gallons of water ( clean smelling apartment for inspection).

I think if your tat is relativity well sealed and you don't spray directly on the tank or right above the tank, it should be fine.

not finding too much about it. looks like over all its fine i would just use it outside the tank and air out the crabs area.

I use it to clean the bathroom and on the floors.

i think its safe to say your hermits will be fine and minty.

As long as your tank isn't on the floor, you should be fine! Happy cleaning!

There have been cases in the past where people have reported crabs dying from being in the same room with things like perfume, scented candles, strong cleaning sprays. I've always had to wonder if those were coincidental to other causes like PPS. I have painted rooms with my crabs in them three times now and never had a death. I can't imagine a little bit of a scent would cause harm.

Yeah I mean...I had a crab survive an apartment fire and unannounced painting and pest control visits. I also burn incense, use wax melts, and oil lamps so something is always smelling up the place. [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]

Never had a crab death that I would relate to any of those items.
