Show me your fabulous crabitats!

Post by Amaggiepie » Thu Jul 20, 2017 8:02 pm

All 3 of my crabbies dug under and we are now obsessed! My son wants to save as many as we can and a 10 gallon tank is too small so I decided to get a bigger set up and perfect it for them while I have pet sand to take care of I got a 55 gallon tank off craigslist but I didnt quite realize how big that was until I showed up to get it. My husband is going to kick my butt.

Anyway...show me your beautiful crabitats! I need some ideas! Especially for making climbing things and an upper level.

I'm not sure how well you can see it, but I love using dowels (or anything really) and putting some kind of flat hard piece (like wood or acrylic) and then Coco climbing wall glued on top and making it a second level. (There's 2 staked in the picture)
This is a 55, and I have just a bunch of wood and branches and what I just described above.
It can still use some tweaking around to make it look prettier but the crabs love it.
I've also added more sand since this picture, there's just so much space to play around with you can really spoil them!!! Image

Thank you! Image

It's a fake plant I got at Hobby Lobby, I dont know if there's a specific name for it. It was in the bush and vine section.

Do they actually use the hamster wheel? That's a neat idea.

I just got a used 55 too. Been picking things up gradually, I got this on clearance at Petsmart: http://www.petsmart.com/bird/toys-perch ... 34212.html

I'm going to build a false bottom in mine, I think. Debating what to do with the water bowls, I want to make them deep pools. I also got a lizard hammock for the corner, and a half log thing

We just aquired our first ones and I'm already trying to figure out where I can stick the 75g I have in the barn. The reason it's IN the barn is there was no place in the house I felt comfortable putting it considering the weight. 600# plus in an old farm house was scary, but with crabs in it.....

I can hear my 75g whispering from the barn.

I really like that hanging glass bubble! Very neat!
I have one crab who spends hours on the wheel. He even does this reall silly thing where he plants his shell kinda upside down in the sand next to it so all his legs are sticking up and just pushes the wheel around and around with his legs but he hims self stays planted in the sand. Kinda like a person lying on his/her back spinning a ball with their feet. It's hilarious! he does this for hours.
Livin' the Crazy crab life :P
